Spain is second world tourist destination in terms of the number of tourists- 56.6 million as well as revenue Euro 46,000 million in 2005. Spain together with being the point of geographical encounter between Europe and Africa, and between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, is one of the most mountainous countries of Europe. Both conditions produce a variety of landscapes and climates characteristic of a continent. So that, without the need to go further than a few hundred kilometers, one can easily and quickly change from humid and green regions, into stony desserts; from wide plain extensions of land to prominent mountain ranges; from farm lands and growing rice land to the wines and olive tree plantations; From ski resorts to tropical climate beaches.
Spain has some of the most vibrant cities in Europe and in Mediterranean basin: Madrid being Europe’s highest capital city enjoys the reputation of an art city and its night-life is legendary. Barcelona is one of the hippest cities of the world, with amazing architecture. Valencia, a Mediterranean city, has just reinvented itself through a cutting edge urban redevelopment.
Andalusia is where you will find the traditional images of Spain with its horses and flamenco dancers. The Green Spain in the north is just the opposite landscape, with its high mountains and rugged cliffs.
The mandate of The Spain Tourist Office has been to promote Spain as a preferred travel destination, identify new and emerging consumer groups, cultivate new relationships with travel partners and disseminate timely and useful information to travelers.
