Instructions

The short stay visa entitles aliens who seek to enter the territories of the Contracting Parties to the Schengen Convention (Schengen countries) for reasons other than immigration, to pay in continuous visits or several visits, the duration of which does not exceed three months in any half-year from the date of first entry.

The Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai is in charge of processing the short stay visa applications of Indian Citizens residence in the following states.
Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karanataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa plus Daman & Diu.

Granting a visa is a prerogative of the Consulate in every case. Having submitted “all the documents” does not imply a “right” for the visa to be granted.

If the applicant is going to travel to different countries of the Schengen area, he must consider that the competent state for processing the visa will be, in this order:

The state of main destination.
The country more related to the purpose or main reason of the trip.
The country in whose territory the visit will be longest.
The state of first entry.

You must please submit your application well in advance before your trip. The minimum time period to process the visa will not be reduced in any case.

On receiving the application, the Consulate will determine an approximate date for the resolution of the application. On that day, any of the following situations may be given:

The visa applied for is granted.
The application is still pending.
The applicant is required to provide further documents.
The applicant is summoned for a personal interview.
The application is rejected.

For groups of more than twenty persons you must first contact the Visa Section of the Consulate or IVS.

Documentation

Documents To Be Provided With The Short Stay Visa Application

  • Passport with a validity of at least three months beyond the date of intended stay (Original present valid passport & old expired original passports if any to be clubbed in). Photocopy of the valid passport, also including blank and un used pages as well. Indian Passports older than 10 years will not be accepted as the main required travel document. Passport should have at least two blank pages.

  • Two application forms dully filled in and signed with a blue ball-point pen by the Applicant. (The first visa form should be filled in original and photocopy can be taken of the other one). The mail address and a telephone number where the Applicant can be contacted must be clearly stated in the application.

  • One authorization form signed by the Applicant and also by parents in the case of minor.

  • Two passport-size photographs (35 mm x 45 mm) with the head centered in the frame and against a white background, the size of the face to be 3 cm, should be pasted on each form.

  • If the Applicant is a minor, the application has to be signed by the parents and copies of the parent's passports to be attached. If only one parent travelling with child, an affidavit on INR 20. - stamp paper is necessary stating that either parent have no objection to the child travelling to Spain. This affidavit has to be signed by both parents.
    However, if either parent is not in the country of original and not travelling with the child, for example if the father of the child has a residence permit for Spain, an affidavit from the father is also necessary.

  • A Covering letter explaining in detail the purpose of the visit that the Applicant intends to take, must be addressed to the Consulate of Mumbai.

  • If the purpose of travel is to visit friends or relatives, and if the host is a Spanish or European Citizen then, an original invitation made before the Spanish Police and an attested copy of the passport or the National Identity Card is required.

  • If the host is not a European Citizen, then photocopy of the residence permit must be attached.

  • If the purpose of the visit is a business trip, an original letter from the Spanish company or companies receiving him explaining the nature of the existing relation and the motive of the visit. It is not necessary that the company gets in touch directly with the Consulate.

  • If the purpose of the visit is a business trip, all the documents that the applicant may deem appropriate to attach in order to show the economic situation of the company, the ownership of the company and the business activity undertaken.

  • If the purpose of the visit is any other than the business trip (for example: conferences, participation in sports events, studies, cultural activities, etc.) all the documents which may justify the motive of the visit.

  • All the documents that the Applicant may consider appropriate in order to show his / her personal economic situation (for instance: original bank statements for the last six months, pay slips, etc.) and attested copies of any other documents that the applicant may decide to provide. These documents are necessary even it is another person, company or institution who bears the expenses of the trip.

  • Bank Statement on original 'Letter Head' of the Bank / Branch in which the applicant has an account.

  • This Statement should be signed by the Bank / Branch Manager and should have the address and phone numbers of the Bank / Branch and it should bear a seal / stamp of the Bank / Branch.

  • The Statement should show the entries for a period of three months prior to the date of application.

  • Income Tax Returns for last three years and Foreign Exchange endorsed on the passport.

  • Leave letter from the Applicants Employer.

  • Confirmed return Air Ticket / Confirmed Itineray / Booking reference [If the Applicant only submits a confirmed booking / itinerary, there is also a possibility that on confirmation of the issued visa the Applicant may be asked the confirmed E-TICKET as proof of travel.
    If an Applicant is travelling to another Country / Countries before travel to Spain then the itinerary before travel to Spain is needed to be enclosed as well or tentative dates of travel to be mentioned in the cover letter if not included in the itinerary.

  • Hotel confirmation from Spain.

  • Proof of travel insurance, for a minimum of 30,000 Euros, to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and / or emergency hospital treatment. The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the entire duration of the Applicant's stay.

  • This visa is issued for a maximum period of 90 days, for duration according to the air ticket submitted.

  • Processing time for the present will be 5 working days, till further notice as per Consulate instructions for Short Stay Visa.

  • Bank Draft in favour of Consulate General of Spain, Mumbai for INR 3,424/- (Kindly mention behind the original draft: Name/ Date of Birth/ Passport Number).

  • Photocopy of the bank draft must be enclosed.

  • Visa for Applicants less than 6 years old are GRATIS (Free).

All above requirements are compulsory in order to process the case. Any applicant can be requested to provide more documents or to go through an interview. Non adherence will render the application liable to rejection.
